When: Thursday 2nd March 2017, 7:30pm
Where: Whittlesford Memorial Hall
At the workshop Amanda Thorn a local resident, Steering Group Member and Planning Office, opened with an excellent presentation of where we are currently after two workshops last year and the drop-in session in January. This included;
- An overview of the business survey results. 18% response from large, medium and small businesses. More responses ideally.
- A brief review of the consultation so far and information gathered. Range of matters arising, including several conflicting views. Some within the remit of the Neighbourhood Plan, some not. Number of large potential proposals on the horizon. Some major ideas for change suggested by those that have taken part.
- The Neighbourhood Plan must focus on development and land use. It cannot designate land in the Green Belt with only limited exceptions. Priorities for funding can be included to set out contributions from developers. The Plan cannot address existing maintenance deficits.
- Ideas now need to be turned into the Neighbourhood Plan based on the evidence collected.
Each workgroup got together to start putting down their thoughts for a Vision Statement for the plan (How people want Whittlesford to look like in 10-20 years) and Objectives (these help to deliver the Vision).
Thank you to all residents who attended the workshop on the 2nd March. It was a good turnout with 25 residents along with the steering group members attending and it is this ongoing community involvement that is essential for the neighbourhood plan to be successful.

What: Drop-In
When: Wednesday 18th January 2017, 4:00pm to 9:00pm
Where: The Red Lion, Whittlesford Bridge
Following the drop in session it was noted that there was a lot of overlap of issues raised in the 4 groups, Housing and Commercial Development (Facilitators Martin Livermore and Ken Winterbottom), Transport and Infrastructure (Facilitators Pam Freeman and Arthur Greaves), Environment & Heritage (New Facilitators Malcolm Turner and Rob Foden) and Community Assets.
The following points were noted:
- Businesses currently in the village have no new sites to grow if needed
- People wanted to see more buses between villages
- More parking needed at the station and general update of station
- A505 difficult to cross as lots of traffic
- Sawston bypass difficult to cross
- Cycle path needed on Duxford Road and better footpath
- Community outside space needed in the South of the village for children particularly with new proposed housing developments
- People would like to see more footpaths
